Hi Misty,
Do you know exactly what type of Endometrial Ablation you had done 6 yrs. ago?....if it was an ablation that is done with a Resectoscope, which is most likely, you probably can have more children. If it was the Thermachoice Balloon ablation, it is suggested you have no more children, however, the surgeon usually tells the patient this before the procedure is done....I highly doubt you had that done at age 21. I don't know of any surgeon who would perform a Thermachoice Balloon Ablation on a 21yr. old patient....did the surgeon who performed your ablation tell you that if you had it done you could not have any more children?.....if you don't know which type of Ablation you had done, you can call the surgeon's office & ask. That way you will know for sure. Six years ago the Thermachoice wasn't as popular as it is now, that's why I'm fairly sure you had it done with a resectoscope, in which case you can have children. Also, what type of monthly flow are you having now?....is it heavy, & how long does it last?....that can be a pretty good indicator of what type of ablation you had done. And did you have the ablation done because of heavy bleeding, and did you have fibroids or polyps?.....Kim C.

Hi Mistyg,
When you had your tubes done, you already gave up the opportunity to have children. More than not, this is a permanent procedure. Some patients, depending on the tube damage, how much tube is left, & other things, SOMETIMES it can be reversed. Tubals are done for permanent sterilization. Some think the procedure is done for temporary birth control method, but this is not correct. It is VERY difficult to perform a tubal reversal that elicits good results. If you are still having heavy periods & you want relief, the hot liquid endometrial ablation will take care of that for you. Do you know if it's the Thermachoice procedure or the Hydrothermal Ablation procedure? Both use hot liquid, but with the Thermachoice, the hot liquid is inside of a balloon catheter. Both have fantastic results however. Your OB probably didn't mention that you couldn't have any more children after the ablation because he knew you already had your tubes done & are sterile anyway. It is recommended that women do not become pregnant after having an ablation. You are sterile anyway, so you don't have anything to worry about. If you think you might want to have children, you should not have the ablation done, and talk to your OB about trying to have a successful tubal reversal. It sounds like your monthly bleeding has become a bit better, lasting 2-3 days only instead of 6-7....if I were you, I'd discuss childbearing concerns with your OB before having this ablation. But like I said, there is not always success with tubal reversals....keep me posted....Kim
