Hi Heidi, if your doctor didn't want to see you right away, obviously he/she felt comfortable with this not being emergent.....it's the very heavy bright red blood that one should worry about, not the darker blood....bright red means it is active bleeding, dark means it is old, or pooled blood...when you have a period, and sleep all night, when you first get up in the morning, the blood is usually darker, because it has been "pooling" in the uterus all night....I wouldn't worry too much about it...since your periods are irregular, it's probably another period....I would look into either going on the birth control pill to regulate your periods & also have a lighter flow, or check out the Thermachoice Balloon Ablation procedure.
