Hi Kim I'm having the same problem as Cindy. I thought I was going crazy trying to figure out what the cause of my back pain was. I knew it had to be female, My back hurts everyday and ten times worst 2 weeks before, during, and right after. My back pain is only tollerable for about 1 week out of the month and I'm never pain free. I am 37, no children. Everyone is telling me I'm too young for a hysterectomy. I'm going on my second D&C and Laproscopic Myomectomy surgery on Feb 6, 08. My first surgery was Sept 5, 06. Since that surgery I was worse. Painful cramps I never had before, more back pain, and extremely heavy bleeding with huge clots. My doctor wanted me to do and endometriosis study because I would get the free medical help, but never told me if I had endometriosis. When he did the operation he took photos and gave me copies, on the back of the photo he said the surgery went well, he removed most of the fibroid. I asked him why he didn't get it all and he said he couldn't get to it. Meanwhile I'm feeling worse and lost my job in December for missing too much work. My doctor then dismissed me and said the cause of my back pain was something else, so he sent me to an orthopedic back specialist. They took an MRI and found 2 herniated disks. The back doctor suggested surgery, so I had the back surgery in March 07. My cramps were getting worse, my bleeding now so heavy I tried depends underwear, because I can't wear pads and forget the tampons they are useless. The depends I found work the best. Just can't be seen in public. I decided not to do the endometriosis study and after research found out that the fibroids can grow back. I also switched doctors. My new GYN did an ultrasound and found I still had fibroids. He put me on progestrone cream and a multi-vitamin. I have another D&C and Laproscopic myomectomy surgery scheduled for Feb 6, 08. My new GYN says this is probably the last surgery before he recommends a hysterectomy. He gave me the choice this time to choose. I'm only 37 and I do want children. Am I going to be in pain even after this surgery? I'm so depressed because I can't work and am fustrated and tired and in pain. I'm going through the Vocational Rehabilitation Program through Jobs Ect. and the community medical clinic through the hospital. They've been wonderful. Have paid for all my surgeries and most doctors appt's. I'm lucky to have found out about this program. I ended up in the emergency room New Years Eve due to extreme cramps where I thought I was going to pass out. My hair was soaking wet, like I just got out of the shower. They prescribed me pain killers. I don't like the way they make me feel, very dizzy. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I just found this site and love it. Certain foods I should be eating? I try and exercise - walking some and stretching. The heat pack helps some also. Thanks Lori lorineedshelp

Hi Cindy....has your physician mentioned a hysterectomy?....that's the option I would decide on...look into Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy(TLH), or at the least a Laparoscopic-Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy, also called LAVH...your fibroids are probably the cause of your bleeding...if the fibroids aren't that large, they can also be removed laparoscopically, it's called a myomectomy....but at your age, I would just opt for the lap hysterectomy & be done with the bleeding problems for good....a word of advice, I would not suggest a supracervical hysterectomy, because you would still have to go back for yearly pap smears to check for cervical cancer.....good luck...hope this helped...Kim, RN, BSN, gyn surgical nurse, team leader.
