Hi KT,
First, I'd like to say I'm sorry you are having such troubles and sorry to hear about your failed ablation.
There could be a few reasons for your failed ablation which you may want to discuss with your doctor:
1. Do you have uterine fibroids?
2. Did he do a 3 minute suction currettage before the actual ablation procedure?
3. Were the readings (especially the pressure reading) on the ablation machine high enough and stable enough throughout the entire 8 minute ablation cycle?
If you have large fibroids, the Novasure Hydrothermal ablation might be better for you than the Gynecare Thermal Balloon Ablation. It is also recommended by Gynecare that the doctor do a full 3 minute suction currettage before performing the thermal balloon ablation (this produces the best results). Also, if the pressure reading on the ablation machine wasn't a STABLE reading of approximately 180 throughout the entire 8 min. ablation cycle, the procedure doesn't produce the most ideal results.
There is, however, a VERY SMALL percentage of women that have failed ablations no matter what. I have had the Thermal Balloon Ablation done about 2 yrs. ago & I have not had ANY monthly bleeding since. Now, if they could only do something about the PMS!!...LOL....Also, does your doctor perform hysterectomies through the laparoscope?....this type produces the least amount of post-op pain, less hospital stay, less bleeding, and best all around patient satisfaction....keep me posted on your progress....what state are you in?....Kim, RN, BSN, GYN Team Leader, Surgical Nurse

hello all ! I am so glad to find this forum !! Well, my story is way too long to put here (polycyctic ovaries, endometriosis, D&C, ovarian drilling x2, cervic opening enlargment, and uterine ablation).
After almost a year of continuous bleeding, I finally had the Thermal Balloon Ablation this past Sept (06). All went well with the procedure, and actuall, all went well for a few months. I had a real light period in Nov and Dec...well, January (first week) I started bleeding heavy !. It would not stop ! I went to my gyno who looked at me and said, "welp, I guess you are my first failed ablation"...can you believe that ?? I looked at him and said "umm, you're welcome?"
Anyway, he has scheduled me for an ultrasound (3 weeks later) and then more than likely will schedule me for a hysterectomy.
I have been dealing with all of this for 17 years. My first surgery was when I was 18 !
Has anyone had the same experiences I have ?? Or am I the only "lucky" one ???
