Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
Symptoms
Not all women with multiple cysts will develop problems; ovulation may be normal some months, and some women will be able to get pregnant without treatment. For those who do develop PCOS, symptoms include irregular or painful periods, hair and skin problems, acne, obesity, and abnormal insulin levels that can increase risk of diabetes. Failure to ovulate, or other complications of PCOS, can lead to infertility. High androgen levels also increase risk of cardiovascular disease.
